Time to kill

Computed by us from the damage, fire rate, magazine and reload figures above: every shot lands at full damage, the first shot is at 0 s, and a reload is added if the magazine runs dry. Real fights include misses, spread and falloff, so treat these as best cases.

How to use the Wood Stake Shotgun

The Wood Stake Shotgun is back for Fortnitemares, and it is not a normal shotgun. It fires a single stake rather than a spread of pellets, so it rewards aiming down sights and punishes hip-fire, as the Fortnite Wiki describes it. It comes in Rare, Epic and Legendary only, hitting for 92 to 101 with a 1.75× headshot multiplier and no damage cap.

Because it fires 1.3 shots a second, almost twice the Pump's rate, its follow-up is much quicker: 0.77 s between stakes against the Pump's 1.43 s. Two body hits remove 150 health and shield at every rarity. Against a full 200, a Rare or Epic needs three body hits (1.54 s) but only two headshots (0.77 s), and one headshot is enough for any unshielded player.

The trade-offs are a four-stake magazine and a slow reload of 3.85–4.28 s, so a missed volley leaves you exposed. The wiki notes it reaches out much further than other shotguns, about 112 metres at most, though it publishes no damage-by-distance curve, so we don't draw one. It also deals 1.5× damage to Cube Monsters and the Revenant Kado Thorne boss.

It is a poor choice against builds: 23–25 structure damage a stake is roughly 30–33 a second. In Build mode, pair it with a rifle for walls. In Zero Build it is a mid-range sniper's shotgun for players who trust their aim.

Where to find it

In the Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Royale pool since v42.30 (1 Oct 2026): returned for fortnitemares 2026. Source: Fortnitemares 2026 Curses Battle Royale, Reload & More (v42.30, 1 Oct 2026); The Corruption Spreads in Fortnitemares 2026 (1 Oct 2026).

Epic doesn’t publish chest, floor-loot or supply-drop odds, and we haven’t found a source we can cite for them, so this page gives none. Modes: we checked Epic’s Battle Royale notes only; Reload, Blitz and OG run their own pools.

What we left out, and why

The wiki's stat table dates from v26.30 (October 2023). Epic's v42.30 notes list the Wood Stake Shotgun as returning with no balance change, so we use that table.

  • Damage by distance: the wiki records relative range changes from October 2025 (+37% mid range, +4% long, −21% at max range) but no falloff curve, so there is no chart.
  • Spread, recoil and aim-down-sights time: no source we can cite.

Wood Stake Shotgun questions

Is the Wood Stake Shotgun in Fortnite right now?

Yes. Epic brought it back in the Fortnitemares 2026 update (v42.30) on 1 October 2026, and it was still listed when we read the notes on 28 October 2026. Fortnitemares runs until 1 November, so it may leave after that.

How much damage does the Wood Stake Shotgun do?

92 at Rare, 97 at Epic and 101 at Legendary per stake, with a 1.75× headshot multiplier and no damage cap, per the Fortnite Wiki. A Legendary headshot is about 177.

Is the Wood Stake Shotgun better than the Pump?

It fires almost twice as often (1.3 vs 0.7 shots a second) and has more range, so it wins longer, accuracy-based trades. The Pump hits harder per shot and only it can one-shot 200 health and shield, and only with a Legendary headshot.
