Time to kill

Computed by us from the damage, fire rate, magazine and reload figures above: every shot lands at full damage, the first shot is at 0 s, and a reload is added if the magazine runs dry. Real fights include misses, spread and falloff, so treat these as best cases.

How to use the Pump Shotgun

The Pump Shotgun is the one-shot weapon of the season. Each shell hits for 87 at Common up to 119 at Legendary, with a 2× headshot multiplier capped at 165–205. Epic nudged it up in v42.10 on 3 September 2026, which is why a Rare or better now removes a full 100 health with one clean body shot.

The price is speed. At 0.7 shots a second there are 1.43 s between pumps, the longest gap of any weapon on this page, so a miss usually means the other player gets a turn. At Legendary the headshot cap of 205 is high enough to delete 200 health and shield in one shot if every pellet hits the head; our maths assumes exactly that, so real fights will often take two.

Range matters more than for anything else in the pool. Damage starts falling at 7 metres, is down to 78% at 10 metres and 49% at 15 metres. The Fortnite Wiki's strategy notes suggest aiming for the upper chest near the edge of that range so more pellets land, using cover between shots, and following up with a faster weapon. The Assault Rifle or Tactical Pistol are the obvious partners here.

In Build mode the Pump is a poor wall-breaker: 45–55 structure damage a shell is only 32–39 a second. It shines in edit-and-peek fights instead. In Zero Build it is the corner-and-doorway gun, and the 0.316 s pull-out time after v42.10 makes swapping to it after a rifle burst quicker than before.

Where to find it

Epic doesn’t publish chest, floor-loot or supply-drop odds, and we haven’t found a source we can cite for them, so this page gives none. Modes: we checked Epic’s Battle Royale notes only; Reload, Blitz and OG run their own pools.

  • v42.10 (3 Sep 2026): Epic: slightly increased damage and equips faster. The wiki records 84–116 rising to 87–119 and the pull-out time falling from 0.433 s to 0.316 s.

What we left out, and why

  • Spread, recoil and aim-down-sights time: no source we can cite.

Pump Shotgun questions

Can the Pump Shotgun one-shot in Fortnite?

Against 100 health with no shield, yes from Rare up, since a body shot does 103–119. Against 200 health and shield only a Legendary headshot can, because its 205 headshot cap is just above 200; every pellet has to hit the head.

Was the Pump Shotgun buffed this season?

Yes. Epic's v42.10 notes on 3 September 2026 say it got slightly more damage and equips faster. The wiki records damage rising from 84–116 to 87–119 by rarity and pull-out time dropping to 0.316 s.

What is the Pump Shotgun's range?

Full damage only to 7 metres, 78% at 10 metres and 49% at 15 metres, per the Fortnite Wiki. It still deals damage out to 31 metres, but the wiki gives no figure for that stretch.
