Fortnite Skins by Chapter: How Many Each Era Added and the Outfits That Defined It

Renegade Raider — a Chapter 1 Season 1 season-shop outfit

Fortnite's finished chapters introduced these numbers of outfits, read on 9 September 2026: Chapter 1 533, Chapter 2 724, Chapter 3 260, Chapter 4 229, Chapter 5 261 and Chapter 6 485. Chapter 7 is still running and adds outfits most weeks, and a small group of entries carries no chapter in the API. This guide walks the timeline chapter by chapter: the dates, the count from the full catalog, and the outfits that came to stand for each era. Chapter dates are from the season records; counts are our own read of the cosmetics API.

Chapter 1 (October 2017 – October 2019): 533 outfits

Chapter 1 ran ten seasons, from Season 1 in October 2017 to Season X, which ended on 13 October 2019, and introduced 533 outfits — the second-largest chapter despite the smallest shop. Its outfits are the ones the catalog's tiers were built around: the Season 1 season-shop pair Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper, Rare-tier items unlocked by player level; Brite Bomber and Ghoul Trooper, the first shop outfits players still name; and the pass stars — Black Knight, The Reaper, Omega, Drift, Calamity, Lynx, Peely — that the Battle Pass guide treats as the template for every pass since. Season X, the 74-outfit finale, gave the sweat community Crystal and Ruby.

Chapter 2 (October 2019 – December 2021): 724 outfits

Chapter 2 launched on 15 October 2019 with a new island and ended on 4 December 2021, and it is the largest chapter in the catalog at 724 outfits, plus the eight new default models that opened it. Its first season alone added 128, the most of any season, and its fourth added 127 — the Marvel season, which brought Thor, Wolverine, Storm and the rest of the Marvel Series into a Battle Pass for the first time. Chapter 2 is also where the series system took shape: Ninja opened the Icon Series in January 2020, Harley Quinn the DC Series in February, Kratos and Master Chief the Gaming Legends Series in December, and Galaxia the Crew Series the same month. Midas and Meowscles, both from Season 2, remain the chapter's signature originals.

Chapter 3 (December 2021 – December 2022): 260 outfits

Chapter 3 was the first one-year chapter, running from 5 December 2021 to 3 December 2022 across four seasons, and it introduced 260 outfits. It opened with the strongest single pass of the modern era — The Foundation, Spider-Man and the rest of Season 1 — and closed Season 3 with Darth Vader, the first Star Wars Series outfit in a pass. Its shop originals were smaller in number but high in character: Meow Skulls from Season 4 became one of the most-worn outfits of 2022, and the Dragon Ball drop in August brought Vegeta, Bulma and Beerus as Legendary, Rare and Epic outfits without a series badge, the pattern the collab guide calls the "no-badge collab".

Chapter 4 (December 2022 – December 2023): 229 outfits

Chapter 4 ran from 4 December 2022 to 2 December 2023 and introduced 229 outfits, the fewest of any chapter, because its fifth "season" was Fortnite OG — a month-long return to the Chapter 1 map in November 2023 that added only 23 outfits, most of them re-styles. The chapter's originals were its strength: Antonia, the Season 4 pass's masked heiress, and Wendell, the Season 2 Rare with a wolf's head, are the two the catalog files as landmarks, and the Crew Series ran its most consistent year with Gildhart, Sylvie, Triarch Nox and Astrea.

Chapter 5 (December 2023 – November 2024): 261 outfits

Chapter 5 launched on 3 December 2023 and ended on 30 November 2024, introducing 261 outfits and two structural changes the catalog still lives with. The first was the named-default system: from Chapter 5, players choose which of fourteen named Recruits they spawn as, described in the default skins guide. The second was the v29.20 update in April 2024, during Season 2, which removed rarity colours and tags from cosmetics — the reason every tier ribbon on this site says "legacy". The chapter's opening pass was one of the strongest, with Peter Griffin, Solid Snake, Oscar, Hope, Nisha and Montague; Season 2's Cerberus and Katara, and the Crew outfit Ares, were the standout originals.

Chapter 6 (December 2024 – November 2025): 485 outfits

Chapter 6 ran from 1 December 2024 to 29 November 2025 and introduced 485 outfits, the largest chapter since Chapter 2, across six seasons that included a Japanese-themed opening, a superhero season and a short Simpsons mini-season that added Homer Simpson as an Epic-tier outfit in November 2025. Its shop was the busiest in the game's history — Season 2 alone added 111 outfits and Season 5 110 — and the Crew Series delivered Durrr Taisho, Haruka of the Masks, Bones, Nyangelica and Kwame in the first five months. Iron Man's 2025 shop release (Marvel Series, February) and Superman's (DC Series, June) were the licensed headlines of a chapter whose shop originals outnumbered its pass rewards three to one.

Chapter 7 (November 2025 – present): still adding outfits

Chapter 7 launched on 29 November 2025 and is in its fourth season, "Override", which runs from 20 August to 31 October 2026; its first season alone introduced 121 outfits, and its shop has kept adding new ones all through 2026. Ichigo Kurosaki from the December 2025 Bleach drop was the first landmark; the March 2026 V-Bucks change — bundles cut, pass reduced to 800 — happened on Season 1's last day. Season 4's pass is the first with Sonic the Hedgehog, and its shop has already produced Kinetic Catalyst and Walter Irons in September, plus Mega Man, Mega Man X and Zero on 7 September. At its current pace Chapter 7 will finish as one of the larger chapters.

Reading the chapter counts

Two chapters — 1 and 2 — hold close to half of all outfits, and the modern chapters swing between 229 and 485 depending on how many seasons they run and how busy the shop is. The busiest single seasons in the API are Chapter 2 Season 1 (128), Chapter 2 Season 4 (127), Chapter 7 Season 1 (121), Chapter 6 Season 2 (111) and Chapter 6 Season 5 (110), which is a reasonable proxy for how much Epic was releasing at any moment. The entries with no chapter are mostly promotional and event outfits that the API never assigned a season. For the tiers those chapters produced rather than the timeline, the rarity tiers guide is the companion page.

Frequently asked questions

How many chapters are there in Fortnite?

Seven as of September 2026. Chapter 7 launched on 29 November 2025 and is in Season 4, "Override", which ends on 31 October 2026.

Which chapter added the most skins?

Chapter 2, with 724 outfits across its eight seasons and a Remix season, followed by Chapter 1 with 533 and Chapter 6 with 485. Chapter 4 added the fewest at 229.

How many Fortnite skins are there in total?

Thousands, and the total grows most weeks as the shop adds outfits. The cosmetics API also lists more raw entries than there are unique outfits, because it keeps duplicates, so totals quoted on different sites rarely match.

Can you still get Chapter 1 skins?

Shop outfits from Chapter 1 such as Brite Bomber and Ghoul Trooper return periodically; Chapter 1 pass outfits such as Black Knight and Drift never do. Season-shop items like Renegade Raider were level-locked in 2017 and have not been sold since.
